There are very few things in this world sadder than a dog that’s been abandoned by its owners. Thank goodness there are shelters that are dedicated to rescuing these poor animals. They dedicate their time and services to finding them new families who will love and care for them.
In New Zealand, there is an animal shelter that recently rescued a terrified dog off of the streets and tried to help the animal until someone would adopt him. The owner of the shelter tried in vain for two days to get the frightened and wary dog just to move out of her spot in the kennel.
Nothing seemed to work, that is until the owner, Abbey van der Plas, called her 7-year-old son Zack to come in and sit beside her while she tried once more. But Van der Plas wasn’t expecting what happened when her son walked into the room.
To her delight, the dog, named Nala, stood right up and came straight over to the little boy.
Christchurch Bull Breed Rescue shelters bull breed dogs that have gotten themselves lost or have simply been abandoned by their owners. They take good care of them until their owner or even a new family can be found.
Nala was found living on the streets and it was determined that the poor dog had been abandoned for weeks. The pitiful, neglected pet was “extremely shutdown and terrified,” van der Plas explained.
“I spent her entire first and second day sitting on the floor trying to gain her trust,” Abbey said, according to the U.K. Daily Mail. “I took hours and hours of footage trying to catch ‘the moment’ that she decided to trust me. She wasn’t having a bar of me, just sat at the back of the run trembling and growling.”
However, that all changed when young Zack walked in. Nala’s attitude changed in an instant. Not only did she finally decide to move out of her corner in the kennel, but she was also quite obviously excited. She walked right on over to the boy and his mom and even gave van der Plas an enthusiastic kiss on the face.
“I bought in my secret weapon, and the magic happened right before my eyes,” explained the rescue owner.
The amazingly touching moment between Zack and Nala was all captured on video, and it has since gone viral on social media, with thousands of people sharing the tender moment with one another.
Van der Plas has kept the shelter’s Facebook page updated with regular notifications about Nala’s health and she has explained that she and her son have brought Nala to live with them until they can find her a forever family of her own.
Sadly, many people think that pit bulls like Nala are “dangerous,” and unfortunately in some cases these dogs have been raised to be vicious, but it is certainly not the fault of the animals. The way a dog, any dog for that matter, behaves has everything to do with how they are treated and trained by their owners. As a matter of fact, pit bulls are known to be one of the most loyal and protective breeds for families if they are given the right kind of love and proper training.
