ANew Jersey pit bull named Patrick, starved and subjected to horrific abuse before his rescue last month, is being called a “miracle dog” after he survived being placed in a trash bag and thrown down the garbage chute of a Newark apartment building. It’s been more than a year since a starving puppy was found at the bottom of a trash chute of a large apartment building in Newark, New Jersey. On March 16, 2011, the building’s superintendent found the emaciated and shivering dog — who’d been wrapped in a plastic bag — just seconds before he would’ve been swallowed up by the trash compacter. The dog was named Patrick because he was discovered the day before St. Patrick’s Day. Rescuers didn’t think he would survive another 24 hours. But he did. And his story is something of a miracle.
