Whenever someone adopts or purchases a dog, they are getting a companion for life. Being a dog owner can be one of the most satisfying experiences for any person, but the bond shared between Mahe and the autistic boy he helps is as powerful as I’ve ever seen.
James Isaac had to go to the hospital to get an MRI to discover reasons for seizures he had been having, and the hospital allowed Mahe to be at his side for the entire ordeal.
“As he went under general anaesthetic, Mahe watched with concern, nuzzling his master’s face. He was just looking at James, and looking really worried.”
According to James’s mother, life was so different before Mahe.
Michelle said going out into public with James used to be nightmare. He was likely to run off and lose the plot in any unfamiliar or over-stimulating involvement.
“We couldn’t even go to a cafe as a family. James would get very anxious and want to leave immediately. But when we got Mahe, James would just sit there waiting for us to finish our coffee.”
Many dog owners will tell you how loyal their own dog is to them, and it’s true that there is definitely a bond between all good dog owners and their dogs, but you’ll be hard-pressed to find a stronger bond than this.
